Description
The title of work is 'Michael's Playmates'. The name 'Michael' from the title is a generic name easily
found in any country and mass media. Indefiniteness of the subject may be due to the indefiniteness
of the audience that the work throws questions to. Also 'Playmates' are necessary beings for
Michael but they do not denote to specific subjects. The absence of a specific audience does not
mean the absence of the objective of this work. Also, it doesn't mean only sensuous approach is
allowed against artistic values.
'Michael's Playmates' is a symbol of the present political and economic paradigm of a relationship
between a ruler and a protector. There seems to be liberty and communication, but as it is, it is
either control or subordination behind protectionism. We can easily find many countries under the
double standard, that is exclusionism and liberalism at once. Fifty stars are for objects of slavery
and protection. And the objects get aggravated by their motions in the form of sound, waveforms
and vibration. A movement of the stars is subordinate to the table, and when wild rage of a ruler
reaches the peak, the movement of the stars is completely restricted. At the same time, the
waveform from sound and vibration appear as another face of a ruler on the table. There is no clear
control, no subordination but rage and fear are always there.
"Long ago, even before you were here, Michael had been already protecting, educating,
playing, showing, loving and exploiting you."
작업의 제목은 ‘Michael’s Playmates’이다. 작업의 제목에서 Michael은 그저 일반적인
하나의 이름에 불과하다. 어느 나라에서나 대중매체를 통해 쉽게 접할 수 있는 하나의 이름이다.
그 대상의 불명확함은 작업이 누구에게 질문을 던지는가에 대한 불명확함 때문일 수도 있다.
Playmates 역시 Michael에게는 없어서는 안될 요소일 뿐 어떤 특별한 대상을 지칭하고 있지 않다.
특별한 대상이 없다는 말이 작업의 목적이 없다는 말을 의미하는 것은 아니며, 예술 작업이 가져야
하는 가치에 위배되는 감각적인 접근만을 용인한다는 의미도 아니다.
‘Michael’s Playmates’는 지배자와 보호자의 관계로 꾸며진 현재의 정치 경제적 패러다임에 대한
상징이다. 자유와 소통을 부르짖지만 숨겨진 보호주의 안에서는 지배가 아니면 종속일 뿐이다. 우리는
자유주의적이면서 동시에 폐쇄적인 이중적인 잣대를 가진 국가들을 얼마든지 찾아볼 수 있다. 50개의
별은 노예이자 보호의 대상이다. 그리고 오브제는 소리와 파형, 진동의 형태로 그들의 움직임에 분노한다.
별의 움직임이 테이블이라는 닫힌 공간 안에 종속되며, 지배자의 진노가 극에 달하는 순간 별들의 움직임은
완전하게 제한된다. 동시에 소리와 진동으로 생성된 파형은 또 다른 지배자의 얼굴로 테이블 앞에 나타난다.
명확한 지배도 없으며 명확한 종속도 없지만 분노와 두려움은 항상 존재한다.
“오래 전 너희가 태어나기 전부터 이미 마이클은 너희를 보호해주고, 교육시켜주고, 놀아주고,
보여주고, 사랑해주고 그리고 착취한다네”

Technical Details
On the dark wall, a 3D-modeled red line is projected and a table is placed above 3 meter from the
wall. The table with 4 speakers inlaid works like a sound plate where the sound from the speakers
is echoing and vibrating,
On the surface of the table are 4 speakers. Also an echo plate is installed inside of the table, so
when speakers emit sound, the table is echoing and vibrating around the speakers, fifty stars are
scattered and they are moving and driving along the motion which made and driven by man
standing on the table. When a person makes strong and extreme motion, the stars around the man
turn their colors into red and scatter around the speakers, the stars with own reacting waves create
a movement of waves. This movement reflects the wave of sound and shows the sound as is.
When the stars moves along the wave of sound and travels far away the 3D-modeled red line
creates a strong movements and waveform
어두운 벽면에 붉은 가로선이 흘러가는 3차원 모델이 프로젝션되고 있으며, 테이블은 벽으로부터 3M가량
떨어져 있는 위치에 배치되어 있다. 테이블의 표면에는 스피커가 들어있으며, 테이블 내부를 울림판으로
제작해 소리가 발생할 때 주변에 강한 파장이 생기도록 했다. 스피커의 주변에는 50개의 별이 흩뿌려져
있으며, 테이블 위에서 움직이는 사람의 동작으로 형성된 동작 흐름 방향으로 별들이 달아난다. 움직임을
강하게 주면 별은 붉은 색으로 변하고, 각각의 별이 가지고 있는 고유의 파장으로 스피커 주변에 영상이
생성된다. 생성된 영상은 소리의 파형을 그대로 표현한 것이고, 소리의 파장에 별들은 구석으로 쫓겨난다.
별들의 움직임으로 파형이 생기면 벽면의 3차원 모델도 함께 파형을 만들어내며 빠른 움직임을 보이게 된다.
